What the Copenhagen Card covers at Frederikssund Museum

The Discover card covers the museum and the train out. It is the cheapest admission on the card, which cuts both ways — and the best part of the site costs nothing to anybody.

Copenhagen Card
What's included
Discover only
✓ The museum in Færgegaarden, the old ferry house of 1893 above the bridge
✓ The archaeological reconstructions in the grounds — a dolmen, a cult house, a Stone Age hunting camp and a stretch of ancient road
✓ The train to Frederikssund, covered on Discover
At your own cost
Not included
Both cards
✗ The Hop card — Frederikssund is a day trip, which that card excludes entirely
✗ Nothing else is withheld — but note the garden is free to everyone, card or not
✗ A second visit. One scan per attraction, so the card opens this door once
Inside

What to see at Frederikssund Museum

A local museum in a ferry house above the fjord, with prehistory rebuilt at full size in the garden around it. Allow an hour.

Highlight 1
Prehistory you can walk into

A dolmen, a cult house, a Stone Age hunting camp and a reconstructed ancient road stand in the grounds at full size. Most museums show you the objects and leave the structures to a drawing; this one builds them.

Highlight 2
Færgegaarden, above the bridge

The museum is in the ferry house of 1893, sitting above Crown Prince Frederik Bridge where the fjord narrows. The building is the reason the collection is here, and the view down the water is part of the visit.

Highlight 3
A garden that is always open

The grounds are free and open all year whether or not the museum is. In the five months the building is shut, the reconstructions are still there and still cost nothing — which makes this an unusual thing to bring a picnic to.

Before you visit

One price worth knowing and a calendar worth checking. Confirmed against frederikssundmuseum.dk.

The cheapest admission on the card — which is the point
  • Adult entry is €8 (60 DKK), the lowest of any venue with a verified price. Under-18s are free and groups of 15 or more pay 50 DKK each.
  • So the card saves little here in itself. What it saves is the journey — a return train to Frederikssund costs several times the admission.
  • That is the argument for the Discover card generally, and this venue makes it more sharply than anywhere else — see what each card covers on public transport.
Shut for the winter, with named exceptions
  • Open 30 March to 31 October, Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 3pm, plus the Christmas weekends.
  • Closed through the winter otherwise, except the February holiday in weeks 7 and 8 — 9 to 22 February.
  • It opens on Mondays that are public holidays — Easter Monday on 6 April and Whit Monday on 25 May — and through week 42.
The garden is free, and open when the museum is not
  • The grounds cost nothing to anybody, card or no card, and they are open all year.
  • The reconstructions are outdoors, so the part most people remember is the part that never closes.
  • Worth knowing if you are travelling in winter, when the building itself is shut but the trip is not pointless.
Getting there

How to get to Frederikssund Museum

Frederikssund is about 50 minutes north-west of Copenhagen by train, and the museum is above the bridge. All of it is on the Discover card.

Copenhagen Card
Discover card
✓ Train from Copenhagen Central to Frederikssund — about 50 minutes, and the fare is covered.
✓ Then a short walk to Færgegaarden, above Crown Prince Frederik Bridge.
✓ The Discover card covers the whole Capital Region, so Frederikssund costs nothing beyond the card.
✓ From the airport — train to Copenhagen Central, then north-west. All covered on Discover.
Copenhagen Card
Hop card
✗ Frederikssund Museum is not included on the Hop card — neither the entry nor the train.
✗ The hop-on hop-off routes stay inside Copenhagen and do not reach Frederikssund.
✗ Discover is the card that covers it, and the train is most of what it saves you here.
Other museums out this way
  • Lejre Museum is south towards Roskilde, holding the Odin from Lejre.
  • Roskilde Cathedral is the anchor of a Roskilde day, with forty Danish monarchs in one church.
  • Roskilde Museum covers that town’s own history, on the walk down to the fjord.

Common questions

Frederikssund Museum — card FAQ

Is Frederikssund Museum included with the Copenhagen Card?

Entry is free on the Copenhagen Card Discover, and the train to Frederikssund is covered too. Adult admission without a card is €8 (60 DKK), the lowest on the card, and under-18s are free. The Hop card excludes day trips.

Is Frederikssund Museum open on Mondays?

It closes on Mondays through the season, apart from public holidays — Easter Monday and Whit Monday — and week 42. The season itself matters more: open 30 March to 31 October, Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 3pm.

Do I need to book Frederikssund Museum in advance with the Copenhagen Card?

Nothing needs booking. Show the QR code in the Copenhagen Card app at the desk and walk in. The garden with the reconstructions is free to everyone and open all year, including when the museum building is shut.

Can I visit Frederikssund Museum twice on the same Copenhagen Card?

One scan per attraction applies, so this is a single visit per card. The garden is free and always open, so a second look at the reconstructions costs nothing and needs no scan.

How do I get into Frederikssund Museum with the Copenhagen Card?

Show the live QR code in the Copenhagen Card app at the entrance and let staff scan it. Your booking confirmation email is not your card, and a screenshot of the QR code will not scan — it has to be the app itself, which works offline once activated.
