What the Copenhagen Card covers at Louisiana

The Discover card covers the museum and the journey. The Hop card covers neither.

Copenhagen Card
What's included
Discover only
✓ The permanent collection — the Giacometti gallery, the Kusama room, the post-war European and American holdings
✓ Whatever temporary exhibition is running, at no extra charge
✓ The sculpture park — Calder, Miró and Henry Moore on the lawns above the Sound
✓ The return train from Copenhagen — worth about €20 on its own
At your own cost
Not included
Both cards
✗ The Hop card — it excludes day trips beyond Copenhagen, so Louisiana is not on it at all
✗ Food in the café and anything from the shop, though the ticket is what gets you into both
✗ Guided tours, which are arranged and paid for separately
✗ Regional train fares if you are travelling on anything other than a Discover card
Inside

What to see at Louisiana

The building is a chain of low pavilions threaded through woodland down to the water, so the route is as much walk as gallery. Allow three hours; most people wish they had left four.

Highlight 1
The sculpture park

Lawns dropping to the Øresund, with Calder mobiles, a Henry Moore and Miró's figures set among the trees — and Sweden visible across the water on a clear day. The ticket covers it, and it cannot be visited without one.

Highlight 2
The Giacometti gallery

A long room of Giacometti bronzes standing against a glass wall onto the lake — the thin, elongated figures set in daylight rather than under spotlights. The most photographed room in the museum, and deservedly.

Highlight 3
Gleaming Lights of the Souls

Yayoi Kusama's mirrored room, entered a few people at a time for a strictly limited spell inside. It is a permanent work, but the queue is real — go early in the visit rather than saving it for last.

Before you visit

Read before you go

The Monday closure and the late opening are the two facts that decide when to go. Both confirmed against louisiana.dk.

Closed Mondays — every week, all year
  • There is no summer exception here. Louisiana shuts on Mondays the whole year round.
  • It also closes on 23, 24, 25 and 31 December and on 1 January.
  • If your only free day is a Monday, Kronborg between May and October or the zoo, which never closes, are the day trips that still work. Our guide to what is open on a Monday lists the alternatives.
The late opening is the reason to go late
  • Tuesday to Friday: open until 10pm. Saturday and Sunday: until 6pm.
  • Opening is 11am for most of the year, and 10am in July and August.
  • Arriving mid-afternoon on a weekday gives you the park in evening light and galleries that have emptied out — the best version of this visit, and the one most people miss.
Nothing to book, and the ticket covers everything
  • Louisiana runs no timed entry. Show the QR code in the Copenhagen Card app at the desk and walk in.
  • Adult entry without a card is €19 (145 DKK); students pay 130 DKK and under-18s are free.
  • The same ticket is what admits you to the café, the shop and the sculpture park — none of them can be visited on their own.
Getting there

How to get to Louisiana

Humlebæk is on the same coastal line as Kronborg, six minutes short of it — which is what makes the two a natural single day. For the full picture, see what the card covers on public transport.

Copenhagen Card
Discover card
✓ Regional train from Copenhagen Central to Humlebæk on the Kystbanen coastal line — about 40 minutes, and the fare is covered.
✓ Several direct trains an hour, so there is no timetable to plan around.
✓ 10 to 15 minutes on foot from Humlebæk station, signposted through a residential street.
✓ The fare alone is roughly €20 return — about as much again as the admission it saves you.
Copenhagen Card
Hop card
✗ Louisiana is not included on the Hop card. That card leaves out day trips beyond Copenhagen.
✗ Regional trains up the coast are not covered on it either, so the journey would be paid separately too.
✗ For a trip built around Louisiana, Kronborg or Frederiksborg, the Discover card is the one that works.
Three more card venues on the same line
  • Kronborg Castle is six minutes further north at Helsingør — the standard pairing is Kronborg in the morning and Louisiana until closing.
  • The Karen Blixen Museum at Rungsted is back down the line towards Copenhagen, in the house where Out of Africa was written.
  • The Nivaagaard Collection is one stop north at Nivå, a small Old Master gallery that most visitors have never heard of.

Nearby attractions also on your card

All three are included on the same card, so the only cost of adding them is the time. For the full list, see every attraction the Copenhagen Card covers.

House Museum · Same train line · Allow 1.5 hrs

Karen Blixen Museum

The house at Rungsted where Karen Blixen grew up, returned to and wrote, kept as she left it, with a bird sanctuary in the grounds and her grave under a beech tree.

Between Copenhagen and Humlebæk — easy to fold into the journey out or back.
Art Museum · One stop north · Allow 1 hr

The Nivaagaard Collection

A private Old Master collection in a purpose-built gallery at Nivå — Italian Renaissance, Dutch Golden Age and Danish work, in a domed room built for it.

Quietest museum on the coast. Rarely more than a handful of people in it.
Castle · 6 min further · Allow 2–3 hrs

Kronborg Castle

Hamlet's Elsinore, guarding the narrowest point of the Øresund, with casemates below and the ballroom above. A UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The classic pairing — the castle first, then Louisiana until it closes at 10pm.

Common questions

Louisiana Museum — card FAQ

Is Louisiana Museum included with the Copenhagen Card?

Entry is free on the Copenhagen Card Discover, covering the permanent collection, whatever temporary exhibition is running, and the sculpture park. The Hop card does not include Louisiana — it leaves out day trips beyond Copenhagen. Adult entry is €19.

Is Louisiana Museum open on Mondays?

Louisiana closes every Monday, all year — there is no summer exception. It also shuts on 23, 24, 25 and 31 December and on 1 January. Tuesday to Friday it stays open until 10pm, which makes a late weekday arrival the better plan anyway.

Do I need to book Louisiana Museum in advance with the Copenhagen Card?

Nothing needs booking — Louisiana runs no timed entry at all. Walk up, show the QR code in the Copenhagen Card app at the desk and go in. The same ticket covers the café, the shop and the sculpture park, none of which can be visited without one.

Can I visit Louisiana Museum twice on the same Copenhagen Card?

One scan per attraction applies, so Louisiana is a single visit per card. Worth knowing if you pictured the park in the afternoon and the galleries after dark — do it as one long visit instead, which the 10pm closing Tuesday to Friday makes easy.

How do I get into Louisiana Museum with the Copenhagen Card?

Show the live QR code in the Copenhagen Card app at the entrance and let staff scan it. Your booking confirmation email is not your card, and a screenshot of the QR code will not scan — it has to be the app itself, which works offline once activated.
