The Nivaagaard Collection is included on the Discover card, not Hop. Adult entry is €13 (100 DKK) without one. The train from Copenhagen is covered.
The Discover card covers entry and the coast train out. The Hop card covers neither.
A small, serious collection of European old masters and Danish nineteenth-century painting, in a gallery built for it on the coast at Nivå. An hour is enough.
Italian, Dutch and Flemish painting of the sort that usually needs a much larger institution. Seeing it in a building this size, without crowds, is a different experience from the same names in a national gallery.
Nineteenth-century Danish painting alongside the European work, which is the comparison the collection was assembled to make. It pairs directly with the Hirschsprung back in the city.
An hour covers it properly. On a coast-line day that takes in Louisiana or Kronborg as well, a museum you are not fighting to get through is exactly what the itinerary needs.
The late opening is the reason to build a day around this one, and one thing about the week is unresolved. Confirmed against nivaagaard.dk and the 2026 Copenhagen museums folder.
Nivå, about 35 minutes up the coast line. Entry and the journey are both on the Discover card.
All three are included on the same card, so the only cost of adding them is the time. For the full list, see every attraction the Copenhagen Card covers.
Modern art in pavilions running down to the Øresund, with a sculpture park and the Swedish coast across the water.
Karen Blixen's family home at Rungsted, kept as she lived in it, with a bird sanctuary and her grave in the grounds.
Hamlet's castle at Helsingør, guarding the narrowest point of the Øresund, with the casemates and Holger the Dane below.
Entry is €13 per adult (100 DKK) without a card, and the coast train is covered too. The Discover card includes both, along with 80+ more attractions and unlimited public transport across the Capital Region.
Entry is free on the Copenhagen Card Discover, covering the old masters, the Danish Golden Age rooms and any temporary exhibition. Adult admission without a card is €13 (100 DKK); under-27s pay 80 DKK. The Hop card does not include it.
The 2026 museums folder does not state a Monday rule for the Nivaagaard Collection, and we have not been able to confirm one either way — so this page does not claim it. Check nivaagaard.dk before a Monday trip. Tuesday to Friday it opens 11am to 8pm and at weekends to 5pm.
Nothing needs booking. Show the QR code in the Copenhagen Card app at the desk and walk in. The train to Nivå and bus 388 to the door are both covered on the same card.
One scan per attraction applies, so this is a single visit per card. At 35 minutes each way it is usually paired with Louisiana or Kronborg on the same coast-line journey rather than visited on its own.
Show the live QR code in the Copenhagen Card app at the entrance and let staff scan it. Your booking confirmation email is not your card, and a screenshot of the QR code will not scan — it has to be the app itself, which works offline once activated.
