The Open Air Museum is included on the Discover card, not Hop. It is a large outdoor site of historic Danish farms and houses at Sorgenfri, north of Copenhagen.
The Discover card covers the museum and the train out. This page carried a price until recently and no longer does, which is worth explaining first.
Frilandsmuseet — real Danish farms and houses taken apart, moved here and rebuilt on open ground. Allow a half day.
The houses were dismantled where they stood across Denmark and rebuilt here, so what you walk into is the real thing rather than a reconstruction. Part of the National Museum, and the largest site it runs.
The scale is the point and the problem: this is a long walk in the open with gardens and fields between the houses. That is why it wants a half day and why the weather decides whether it is a good one.
You can bring your own food and eat it in the dining areas, dogs come on a lead, and children’s balance bikes are allowed on site. Few museums are as relaxed about what you turn up with.
One price this site used to publish and no longer does, and a page of practical detail worth reading first. Confirmed against frilandsmuseet.dk.
Sorgenfri is about 25 minutes north of Copenhagen by train, and the museum is a short walk from the station. All of it is on the Discover card.
All three are included on the same card, so the only cost of adding them is the time. For the full list, see every attraction the Copenhagen Card covers.
The Nordic region’s largest classic car centre, with more than 300 cars across 25,000 square metres.
French and Danish painting in a country house with a Zaha Hadid extension, and an art park in the grounds.
Hands-on science over several floors at Hellerup, and the second most expensive attraction on the card without one.
The Discover card includes the site and the train out to Sorgenfri, along with 80+ more attractions and unlimited public transport across the Capital Region.
The Copenhagen Card Discover covers entry to the whole site and the train out with it. The museum does not publish an adult admission price — one this site carried came from a secondary source and could not be confirmed, so it has been removed. The Hop card covers neither.
The Monday rule is not published anywhere we can check, so this page does not claim it either way. The site is seasonal as well, so check frilandsmuseet.dk before travelling rather than assuming it is open.
Nothing needs booking. Show the QR code in the Copenhagen Card app at the entrance and walk in. Trolleys are hired on the day in limited numbers, so bring your own if you have one and it matters.
One scan per attraction applies, so this is a single visit per card. Given the size of the site, most people spend a half day here rather than planning to come back.
Show the live QR code in the Copenhagen Card app at the entrance and let staff scan it. Your booking confirmation email is not your card, and a screenshot of the QR code will not scan — it has to be the app itself, which works offline once activated.
