Inside

What to see at the Rudolph Tegner Museum

A sculptor's mausoleum on open heath in North Zealand, with fourteen bronzes standing in the landscape around it. Allow an hour, plus the walk from the station.

Highlight 1
The building Tegner built for himself

A raw concrete rotunda on empty heath, put up in the 1930s to hold his own work and, eventually, his body. It is one of the strangest buildings in Denmark and nothing about it is accidental.

Highlight 2
The statue park

Large bronzes set out across the heath around the museum, with nothing between them and the sky. In this landscape they read completely differently from the same figures indoors.

Highlight 3
The setting

Open heath running towards the coast, with Munkeruphus a short distance away along the same road. This is the emptiest place on the card and the journey is part of the point.

Before you visit

Read before you go

The season decides whether the museum is open — but not whether the trip is worth making. Confirmed against rudolphtegner.dk and the 2026 Copenhagen museums folder.

The park is open all year, free, even when the museum is shut
  • The statue park stays open the whole year and costs nothing to anybody, card or no card.
  • The museum building opens 15 April to 19 October only. Outside that window the door is locked and the sculpture on the heath is still there.
  • So a winter visit is not a wasted one — it is simply a walk rather than a museum, and you will not need the card for it.
Inside the season: hours and Mondays
  • 15 April to 19 October: 11am to 4pm. In June, July and August it runs longer, 10am to 5pm.
  • Closed Mondays throughout. If your only free day is a Monday, see what stays open.
  • Adult admission is €11 (80 DKK) without a card, and under-18s are free.
Getting there is the commitment
  • About an hour by train to Dronningmølle, then a 1.5 km walk or bus 362.
  • Discover covers the whole journey. The Hop card covers none of it and does not include the museum either.
  • Pair it with Munkeruphus along the same road — two venues make the trip out proportionate, which is the calculation behind how far the Discover card takes you.
Getting there

How to get to the Rudolph Tegner Museum

Dronningmølle in North Zealand, about an hour out. The whole journey is on the Discover card.

Copenhagen Card
Discover card
✓ Train to Dronningmølle, roughly an hour from Copenhagen with a change. Covered.
✓ Then 1.5 km on foot across the heath, or bus 362 — also covered.
✓ Helsingør is on the way, so Kronborg can be built into the same day.
✓ From the airport — train to Copenhagen Central, then north. All covered on Discover.
Copenhagen Card
Hop card
✗ The museum is not included on the Hop card — neither the entry nor the journey.
✗ The hop-on hop-off routes do not leave Copenhagen.
✗ Discover is the only card that reaches North Zealand.
North Zealand in one trip
  • Munkeruphus is a short distance along the coast road, and also on the Discover card.
  • Kronborg is at Helsingør on the way out or back, and worth half a day on its own.
  • Louisiana is further down the coast, which makes a long but genuinely good single-card day.

Common questions

Rudolph Tegner Museum — card FAQ

Is Rudolph Tegner Museum included with the Copenhagen Card?

Entry to the museum is free on the Copenhagen Card Discover, which also covers the train and bus out. Adult admission without a card is €11 (80 DKK) and under-18s are free. The statue park outside is free to everyone in every season.

Is Rudolph Tegner Museum open on Mondays?

The museum closes every Monday within its season, and the season itself runs 15 April to 19 October only. Hours are 11am to 4pm, extending to 10am–5pm in June, July and August. The statue park outside stays open all year regardless.

Do I need to book Rudolph Tegner Museum in advance with the Copenhagen Card?

Nothing needs booking. Show the QR code in the Copenhagen Card app at the desk and walk in. The train to Dronningmølle and bus 362 are both covered on the same card.

Can I visit Rudolph Tegner Museum twice on the same Copenhagen Card?

One scan per attraction applies, so the museum is a single visit per card. The statue park is not ticketed at all, so walking it again on another day costs nothing and uses no scan.

How do I get into Rudolph Tegner Museum with the Copenhagen Card?

Show the live QR code in the Copenhagen Card app at the entrance and let staff scan it. Your booking confirmation email is not your card, and a screenshot of the QR code will not scan — it has to be the app itself, which works offline once activated.
